Embryo biopsies for genomic selection in tropical dairy cattle

نویسندگان

چکیده

Genomic selection has transformed the livestock industry, enabling early-life of animals. Biopsy sampling pre-implantation embryos been described since 1968. However, it was only after 2010, with advancement molecular biology techniques such as whole genomic amplification and SNP Chips, that next-generation sequencing became commercially available for bovine embryos. It is now possible to make decisions about which transfer not based on recipients’ availability or embryo morphology but also estimates. This technology can be implemented a wide spectrum applications in livestock. In this review, we discuss use biopsy share our experience Gir Girolando Brazilian breeding programs, well future goals implementing vitro production practices.

Genotyping strategies for genomic selection in small dairy cattle populations.

This study evaluated different female-selective genotyping strategies to increase the predictive accuracy of genomic breeding values (GBVs) in populations that have a limited number of sires with a large number of progeny. A simulated dairy population was utilized to address the aims of the study. The following selection strategies were used: random selection, two-tailed selection by yield devi...

Corrigendum: Genomic Selection Improves Heat Tolerance in Dairy Cattle

Dairy products are a key source of valuable proteins and fats for many millions of people worldwide. Dairy cattle are highly susceptible to heat-stress induced decline in milk production, and as the frequency and duration of heat-stress events increases, the long term security of nutrition from dairy products is threatened. Identification of dairy cattle more tolerant of heat stress conditions ...

Invited review: Genomic selection in dairy cattle: progress and challenges.

A new technology called genomic selection is revolutionizing dairy cattle breeding. Genomic selection refers to selection decisions based on genomic breeding values (GEBV). The GEBV are calculated as the sum of the effects of dense genetic markers, or haplotypes of these markers, across the entire genome, thereby potentially capturing all the quantitative trait loci (QTL) that contribute to var...

Genomic Selection in Dairy Cattle: The USDA Experience.

Genomic selection has revolutionized dairy cattle breeding. Since 2000, assays have been developed to genotype large numbers of single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) at relatively low cost. The first commercial SNP genotyping chip was released with a set of 54,001 SNPs in December 2007. Over 15,000 genotypes were used to determine which SNPs should be used in genomic evaluation of US dairy cat...
